Metroid Prime garnered a record 10 nominations on Tuesday for the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences' 2003 Interactive Achievement Awards. Other Game of the Year nominees were Nintendo's Animal Crossing, EA's Battlefield 1942 for the PC (recently canned for the Xbox), Sony's Ratchet & Clank for PS2 and Take-Two's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for the PS2.
Battlefield 1942, Vice City, Ratchet & Clank and Ubi Soft's mighty Splinter Cell for Xbox each took six nominations.
Nintendo and Electronic Arts lead the field in total nominations with 26 and 25, respectively.
A total of 30 categories will be honored Feb. 27 at the academy's sixth-annual awards show in Las Vegas. The academy will also induct Sega' Yu Suzuki, the game designer, into its Hall of Fame.
