Kids are screaming for DVD. Literally. With the host of Halloween discs aimed at the younger set, it's about time moms and dads get with it. For the past year, families have been ditching their VCRs. But now the VCR they kicked upstairs to Junior's room is getting bumped for a DVD machine as well. It has been either a PlayStation video game console (which also plays movie discs) or one of those hot new DVD-TV combos.
A survey by Adams Media Research found that 38% of consumer households with children under the age of 12 that don't yet have a DVD probably will buy one soon. "Early DVD adopters were primarily men with home-theater interests," says Alan Ferguson, vice president of sales for Sony Music Distribution. "The next wave has started, and it consists mainly of families, many of whom have young children."
