The promise of Bluetooth is that it allows devices to find one another and advertise the services they can provide one another without user intervention. A cell phone, for example, might let other devices know that its contact information and appointment book are available for exchange, and that it's ready to serve as a modem for data connections. Likewise, a printer could broadcast its availability and abilities to other Bluetooth devices within radio range.
That world of chattering devices isn't here quite yet. But Microsoft is doing its part to make it happen by seeding the market with its $159 Bluetooth kit, which includes a Bluetooth USB adapter along with a mouse and keyboard. The kit is due to arrive in retail stores in November.
