DELL COMPUTER INCREASED its share of the server market both in the U.S. and worldwide in the third quarter of 2002, according to preliminary figures released Monday by research company Dataquest.
The Round Rock, Texas, vendor made 19.2 percent of the servers shipped worldwide during the period, up from 16.8 percent in the third quarter of last year, Dataquest said in a statement. Meanwhile, sales leader Hewlett-Packard saw its market share slip to 30.0 percent in the quarter, from 32.5 percent a year earlier. Dataquest's HP sales figures for last year combine the totals for HP and Compaq Computer, which HP acquired earlier this year.
