Still doubt that LCD monitors have moved into the mainstream? Well, not only has Gateway announced it's dropping CRT screens from its default desktop configurations (making 15-inch LCD monitors and CD-RW drives standard on systems starting at $699 after a mail-in rebate for a 1.8GHz Celeron PC), but Samsung Electronics America has broadened its line with three new 17-inch flat panels, while NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics Display of America has cut its LCD monitor prices across the board, from $90 savings on 15-inch to a $1,000 discount on a 21-inch unit.
