A Microsoft executive said on Monday it will take five to 10 years before the Internet is designed in such a way that companies and people can protect themselves against hacker attacks. ``I personally believe it's going to take five to ten years before changes in the Internet infrastructure (that will provide protection) will be permeating the Internet,'' said Craig Mundie, Microsoft senior vice-president for Advanced Strategy. Microsoft itself was hit last week by a denial of service attack, in which hackers overwhelmed its Web sites with an avalanche of messages, preventing services such a Hotmail from operating.
