USB 2.0 expected to become new PC standard in 2Q | |

With volume production of motherboards based on Intel’s USB 2.0-supporting chipsets – the 845E, 845G, 845GL and 850E – starting in May, the USB 2.0 platform is expect to become the new interface standard of PCs in the second quarter. With the support of Intel and Microsoft, the popularity of the USB 2.0 specification has been increasing significantly. Intel is set to formally introduce a series of USB 2.0-based chipsets in the second quarter. Microsoft has incorporated the driver program of the USB 2.0 specification into its Windows XP operating system, following its integration of the driver program of the USB 1.1 version in Windows 2000. Other semiconductor and IC design companies have also geared up for the new USB 2.0-platform market. International chipmakers like Cypress Semiconductor, Atmel and Philips have launched their USB 2.0 chips, while Taiwan’s IC designers have related products at the ready. | ||
