States head to court split on Microsoft settlement | |

The 18 states in the Microsoft Corp antitrust case head to court on Tuesday to tell a federal judge they are unable to agree on supporting a settlement of the three-year-old legal battle reached between the company and the U.S. Justice Department. Talks took place Monday between Microsoft and attorneys general representing New York and several other states in the hope of last-minute changes that would allow them to back the deal that was announced Friday, sources said.It was unclear early Tuesday if any compromise had been reached. Other states, notably Massachusetts and California, want major changes to the pact that critics say is too soft on a company found to have illegally maintained its monopoly in personal computer operating systems. | ||
