We've recently seen the latest stage in Microsoft settling its DoJ case with the distribution of vouchers in California and now it's the turn of Sun Microsystems to ask for its pound of flesh. A court judge has ruled that Microsoft now has 120 days to start shipping Sun's Java technology with the Windows operating systems.
I suppose we all expected this outcome, although it does seem to have surprised Judge Frederick Motz, who is ruling over the hearing. Motz has now given Sun permission to continued with all 16 of its antitrust claims. Just last week the same judge granted Microsoft a motion to dismiss two of these claims and the reason for the change of mind - he misunderstood the original claims. But with his blonde moment behind him, the judge has also granted Microsoft two weeks to appeal against the decision.
