Microsoft's new browser move raises questions | |

It looks like you won't have to wait more than a few months for your next Web browser. At the recent RSA Security meeting in San Francisco, Bill Gates announced that Microsoft would be releasing Internet Explorer 7 in the summer. So far, we've heard that the upgrade would incorporate enhancements that will solidify the privacy and security of the product -- but not much about the feature set. During the past year, Microsoft's Internet Explorer has lost some market share to Firefox, the latest browser from The Mozilla Organization, a nonprofit group that was spun off from the old Netscape company to create open source Internet tools. With open source software, the actual lines of code that make up the software are viewable, so external developers can contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the product -- making the final product a collaborative (and, I hope, better) product. | ||
