Years ago, your work colleagues were down the hall. But now they are often thousands of miles away, creating a monumental challenge for both managers and the teams that report to them. A Works Management survey of manufacturers found that 86 percent collaborated well within functional teams and 59 percent gave positive marks for cross-functional teams. In contrast, virtual teams scored close to zero. No one felt comfortable working in these environments. Now, lost within the recent controversies surrounding the new Windows XP comes an audacious effort by Microsoft to confront the dilemma of supervising people spread out around the globe. | ||
