CDRLabs.com has posted another of their in-depth reviews, this time taking a look at the Pioneer-based Asus DRW-0804P drive. Can it live up to its heritage? Here's a snippet from the review:
Like the Pioneer drive it's based on, the DRW-0804P can write to both DVD-R and DVD+R media at 8x. At this speed, the drive was able to write 4GB of data in less than 8 minutes. While we've seen a few 8x DVD writers that can do it in less time, they are few are far between. Unfortunately, the DRW-0804P's performance was not as impressive when writing to DVD±R and DVD±RW media at 4x. For whatever reason, the drive took longer than normal to complete its calibration tests, increasing the overall writing time. Of course, this long calibration also ensured that the DRW-0804P's writing quality was very good. However, there is still room for improvement, especially with Verbatim's 8x DVD-R media.
