Peer into that crystal ball: Where will Microsoft make its biggest investments in fiscal 2004? Where is Microsoft intending to spend heavily in fiscal 2004 (which commenced, for the Redmond software behemoth, on July 1)? Chief Financial Officer John Connors' list of planned investments included some less-than-intuitive ones. The company expects to spend an estimated $3.9 billion on its recently announced employee stock-compensation package, Connors told analysts on Thursday, during the company's quarterly earnings call. No big surprises there. Microsoft also is gearing up to spend some serious marketing bucks on a number of new product launches this coming year, especially around its Office System 2003 launch, which we've heard will be in New York in October. In addition to spending on the Office 2003 product launch itself, Microsoft also will be sinking dollars into building up the "Office System" brand. (Simultaneously, it will be doing the same for the "Windows Server System" brand.) | ||
