A
few years back, when Infogrames began ramping up their buy and build strategy
for entering the computer and video game industry full force, the French company
acquired a developer called Accolade. With the acquired company, Infogrames took
on the Test Drive property that originally gave Accolade its name. Since
then, the Test Drive series has appeared on many platforms and taken on
many forms in the style of driving and types of cars the particular title
featured. The Off Road sub-genre, which has been seen before, probably hits the
most bumps in critics eyes for the game's lackluster attempts to take the path
less paved, and catch the off-road action.
Test Drive Off Road fights an uphill battle because graphically it
doesn't appear to be living up to the expectations of what the Xbox is capable
of and seems almost like a port from an older system. It does, however, manage
to overcome most of these setbacks.
