CDRLabs.com has posted another thorough DVD writer review, this time of Memorex's external 8x dual format drive, which is based on NEC's ND-2500A drive. Boasting write speeds of 8x on DVD+R and DVD-R media and 4x on DVD+RW and DVD-RW media, the drive also supports connectivity via USB 2.0 or Firewire. So does the drive live up to high standards of the internal version of the NEC drive? Here's a snippet from the review:
Like the internal version of the True 8x, Memorex's new external drive can write to both DVD+R and DVD-R media at 8x. At this speed, it was able to write 4GB of data in less than 9 minutes. While not the fastest drive we've tested, the True 8x's writing quality was very good and, unlike its internal counterpart, it can write to select 4x DVD±R discs at 8x. Memorex's new external writer also did very well in our rewriting tests. Thanks to its 4x writing speed, the drive turned in some very good times with both DVD+RW and DVD-RW media.
As always, you can read the entire review over at the CDRLabs.com web site.
