Nvidia CEO: Adopting 0.13-micron Process For New Chips | |

Nvidia will adopt 0.13-micron processing for new products launched in the third quarter of 2002, ahead of its competitors and despite industry concern about stability and cost, said company president and CEO Huang Jen-hsun at Computex Taipei. Huang noted that since Nvidia is the industry leader, not changing would be the most dangerous course. Nvidia’s GeForce3 graphics chip had led in using 0.15-micron processing at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). Responding to a rumor that Nvidia had cut orders to TSMC, Huang said that Nvidia did place fewer orders to TSMC in the first quarter, but it was due to the improved yield rate of the 0.15-micron process. In the second quarter, decreasing orders have been due to the product transition from the GeForce2 series to the GeForce4, a normal phenomenon. | ||
