eWEEK visits with Jim Allchin, head of the Microsoft Windows development team, to discuss strategies for the new operating system and its development process, amongst other things as well. Windows Vista's beta process has undergone a significant change compared to previous Windows beta programs. Windows Vista code drops are done with the Community Technology Preview (CTP) releases, rather than major milestone drops such as Beta 1, Beta 2, and so forth which may be less stable than a traditional milestone but gives testers and hardware vendors more of a look at the upcoming product. However, Windows Server codename "Longhorn" will see these milestone beta releases. | ||
