Europe mum on Microsoft probe deadline | |

The European Commission said Friday that it would hold out against giving deadlines for when it will conclude its probe of Microsoft for possible abuse of its dominant market position. The Commission, responsible for policing antitrust cases across the EU, had said in March that a decision was months away for the probe which has lasted around three years. "As to the missed deadlines, that can only encourage us at the present time not to venture any other date with respect to when we hope to conclude on this," Commission competition spokeswoman Amelia Torres told a news conference. The Commission has said it is looking at whether Microsoft designed its dominant Windows operating system to work better with its own servers than those of rivals. The Commission is concerned that Media Player enjoys an advantage over rivals. | ||
