Microsoft To License Windows' Source Code To Brazil | |

Brazilian universities will become the first in Latin America to gain access to the source code, or underlying instructions, of Microsoft Corp's Windows computer operating system, the U.S. software giant's chief executive said on Monday. Chief executive Steve Ballmer announced the decision after meeting with Brazil's President Fernando Henrique Cardoso on Monday, adding that Brazil represents one of the most important markets for the U.S. company. Ballmer said Microsoft would license some universities with the source code to Windows, making Brazil "one of just a few countries," in the world to gain such access to the world's leading computer operating system. That will allow students to research "how to build software on top of the (Windows) system," Ballmer said. | ||
