CyberLink Bashes DVD PlayBack Feature of Windows Media Player 8 | |

In a recent newsletter, Cyberlink the tawainese multimedia software manufacturer, known for PowerDVD, criticizes one of the new multimedia feature of the upcoming Windows XP operating system from Microsoft, set to be released on October 25th. Indeed Cyberlink says that, despite Microsoft claims, the Windows Media Player 8.0 can't really playback DVDs. Here is an excerpt of their statement: Microsoft does offer a new feature that allows for DVD playback, and even has some sophisticated controls and bonus features, like a DVD database, that will help you enjoy DVD viewing on the PC. Yet, there is a little glitch in that the new Windows Media Player "alone" cannot decode DVD titles. One reason for this is that Microsoft does not include an MPEG-2 decoder, which is a must if you want to watch DVD titles on your PC. This is a pretty important feature and one that should be noted because some people in the media have failed to mention this fact when they discuss the DVD playback capabilities of the new Windows Media Player. | ||
