Shutting Microsoft Out of the Wireless World | |

Because wireless still is a young industry, there is plenty of uncertainty over which companies eventually will dominate the space. Microsoft has its eyes fixed on the mobile operating system market -- with the leverage that it has, it is hard to imagine that any competitor would be able to shut the software giant out. Nevertheless, Symbian an operating system designed specifically for wireless by major players in the wireless handset market, is causing some buzz along those lines. Symbian could represent the best hope for keeping Microsoft at bay. "Right now, it's still open for anyone," Gartner analyst Philip Redman told Wireless NewsFactor about the wireless OS market. Redman believes there is plenty of room for Microsoft's Pocket PC operating system, Palm OS and Symbian to coexist. | ||
