Why Batteries Are Still the Bottleneck of Mobile Computing | |

A portable device is only as good as its power supply, so innovations in mobile phones, personal digital assistants and other wireless gadgets need to be matched with advances in batteries. However, in the fast-moving world of wireless tech development, improving batteries has not been a major priority. "Usually, batteries get 10 percent better a year," Yankee Group analyst Roger Entner told Wireless NewsFactor. "But devices get 15 percent hungrier. Battery life just doesn't seem to outpace device needs." Battery makers are focused on "manipulating the insides of the batteries now," Entner said, rather than making radical innovations in power supply concepts. "I think this process is going to be more evolutionary than revolutionary," he added. | ||
