  Microsoft Licenses Multimedia File System To Panasonic

Microsoft has reached an intellectual property agreement with Panasonic that provides Panasonic with access to Microsoft's extended file allocation table, a file system technology that helps flash memory devices handle rich audio and multimedia files.

Access to the exFAT file system will allow Panasonic to offer more seamless portability of multimedia files from a Windows PC to different devices. Panasonic also negotiated a patent license that covers use of the FAT32 long filename format in its products.
