U.S. video game sales grew 10 percent during 2002, a much lower rate than expected largely because of a disappointing holiday season, according to industry reports. U.S. sales of hardware, software and accessories totaled $10.3 billion, compared with $9.4 billion the previous year, according to data distributed to clients by market researcher NPD Funworld. But for the second year in a row, the video game industry's sales still managed to beat movie box office receipts of $9.3 billion, according to Exhibitor Relations, a market research firm in Los Angeles. In 2001, video game sales grew more than 12 percent. | ||
