How Fast Can You Surf on a Wireless Network?
Time: 01:07 EST/06:07 GMT | News Source: NewsFactor | Posted By: Guillaume Hébert

Wireless carriers in the United States have been tweaking their offerings in the past few years to allow users access to the Internet through wireless devices. But surfing on a wireless network is more like, well, bodyboarding in the neighbor's pool. It is painfully slow for those who have tiny attention spans. "In short, the user experience stinks right now," Aberdeen analyst Isaac Ro told Wireless NewsFactor. The service is very clunky in terms of both speed and coverage. "If you are browsing full HTML, page loads take several minutes -- particularly with pages containing large graphics files." Though there will be marked improvements in the next year, advances over the short term will be negligible. Despite all the hype from carriers, the truth is that not one is significantly ahead of the game.
