Asustek to launch desktop CPU P4 notebooks in 2Q | |

Asustek Computer, which recently established a division to develop notebooks running on desktop CPUs, said that it would launch its notebook equipped with Intels desktop Pentium 4 (P4) processor in the second quarter. Johnny Shih, chairman of Asustek, will directly oversee the operations of the new division. The Taiwan-based company is projected to ship 1.5 million notebooks this year and hopes to become one of Taiwans top five notebook manufacturers in 2003. Desktop CPU notebooks will play a major role in Asusteks rise to first-tier status. Quanta Computer and Compal Electronics, the top two notebook producers in Taiwan, will ship approximately 3.5 million units and five million units in 2002, respectively. | ||
