IBM pays $100,000 fine for graffiti ads | |

A guerrilla advertising campaign that covered San Francisco sidewalks with IBM graffiti has resulted in a $100,000 settlement as the computer giant seeks to placate enraged city officials. Under a deal approved on Tuesday by San Francisco's Board of Supervisors, International Business Machines Corp. and two of its advertising agencies, Ogilvy & Mather and Mindshare, will pay the fine to avoid possible criminal prosecution. IBM and the two advertising firms agreed to split the $20,000 cost of the clean-up as well as a $100,000 donation to the city's Clean City Coalition program, officials said. The campaign promoting IBM's "Peace Love and Linux" campaign left black-stenciled graffiti depicting a peace sign, a heart and a penguin at dozens of locations around the city. | ||
