  • DOWNLOAD: eventSherpa v1.2My PDA is the only calendar I use to avoid going crazy trying to keep track of multiple calendars. eventSherpa is another option and it’s free with a great interface. Surprisingly, it is not just another calendar for you to input your stuff. The power lies in the calendar’s connection to the Web where you can find events to add to your calendar and share your stuff. For instance, if you’re a Georgetown University basketball fan (oh boy, tough for a former American U student to write this), go to Sports where you’ll see a list for Georgetown Hoyas Basketball. Click on the subscribe column and the team’s schedule is loaded into your calendar. Apply the same concept for conferences, movie releases (by country), and more. It’d be a great way for schools to publish their calendars. If only it would work with my PDA.
  • COUNTERPOINT: Cookies Are Our FriendsIn yesterday's Gnewbie Gnook, Brandon wrote some things about cookies that may have you battening down the hatches and and going into super conspiracy theory mode. I'd like to present the flip side of the coin. As a Web developer, cookies are a great asset in presenting a more dynamic and enjoyable Web experience. While there is a CHANCE that cookies can be misued, the paranoia is greatly exaggerated and unnecessary. Cookies can only be read from an originating Web server, for starters. So if you save a cookie on Web server A, then Web server B can't access it. This has always been a security measure built into the cookie spec since Netscape created it back in the old west of the Internet.
