And boy, have I got the place for you, Bill Gates: Micronesia! You won't have to change the name! Structure it right, and the country of Micronesia could sell Microsoft-branded products, yet avoid landing in U.S. federal court on antitrust charges, thanks to the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, which, as Downes points out, makes it difficult for the United States to sue other nations. Micronesia is a South Pacific island nation about four times the size of Washington, D.C. It comes with warm weather and palm trees, and has a population of about 150,000 people. Its official language is English and its currency is the U.S. dollar. The only hardship for all those Seattle-dwelling Microsoft employees would be parting with their extensive collections of fleece. | ||
