Vista causes surge of OSX Leopard pre-orders | |

It seems more than a few people are fed up with Microsoft and are using the “blunder” that is Windows Vista to make the move over to a Mac. Pre-orders for OSX Leopard are at an all time high for a Mac operating system. According to the Mac Observer, solution providers have noticed that pre-orders for Leopard are almost double that of Tiger when it was released. Patrick Brown, CEO of Brown Computer Solutions which is a specialized solution provider for Apple products said, “We’ve probably doubled the backorders of Leopard, compared to what we did with Tiger” and he went on to say that Apple’s move to Intel has lead to an increase of Mac users. The article goes on to point out that poor reviews of Vista are encouraging people to stick with Windows XP or those in the market for a new computer are considering purchasing a Mac, some would be first time Mac buyers. Some would even say that with the release of Vista, Microsoft has indeed pushed users to consider switching to a Mac, rare is the day a good word is said about Vista. | ||

Well, after reading all of that Lloyd, I say bring it on, I'm ready. :) The thing about Apple and their history, they genuinely care about the user. Thats why they have for so many years pioneered so much that the industry never saw and now take for granted today, the user interface, point and click, and the iPhone is now another pioneering example.
They realize that cellphones are too clunky and complex and focus too much on packing features instead of looking at the users needs. Apple focused on designing something that is more personal and adaptive to the users needs in a functional, "natural" way. Command line driven interfaces of the 80s focused on a small group of users who always thought logically (programmers), but thats not a general assumption of everybody. Thats why Apple/Steve Jobs saw the promise of the GUI and what it would mean for all us. Yes they care about money, since they are a business and have been in this Industry since the beginning. But they do care about good design, aesthetics and making things dumb simple which is what all 'users' want. Now send me that Mac to review! LOL! |

I think I'll send a desktop replacement - where we have fitted an actual desktop processor and GPU into a laptop case.
I don't know that I can agree with the assessment that Apple truly cares. We won the Server 2003 Challenge based upon converting a large ad agency from Apple/Mac/*nix to Microsoft Software - it becomes more significant whan one realizes that the customer was the one that nominated us. They were tired of Apple, Mac computers and how they were not only being treated, but limited. Their needs were very much centered on the enterprise needs companies have and Apple and its few partners had no answers. We were already selling hardware and networks as services by that point - had been for a few years. What we found all users of all types were looking for was a continuous connection to answers and solutions. This post was edited by lketchum on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at 22:37. |

How does that work Lloyd? Is that a modded Apple system or Laptop? I would gladly go with a workstation if it avoids inconvenience, just want an Apple system to review and test some real world scenarios on. |

#54, Oh, no - we do not build, or mod Apple Mac computers.
We design and build our own personal computers, workstations, media systems, laptops, servers, and compute/rendering clusters. We have two models that are in laptop form factors that use desktop CPU's and GPU's. They are as fast as a desktop, but as light as a middleweight laptop. They are as cool to the touch, too. If you want to review an Apple, you're going to have to contact them. We do have Macs around and even the new one I mentioned, but we sustain them to best understand them and to support the customers we have that do have some, or one of them. I also carefully review them and compare them for our customers alongside Windows Vista machines. I have never lost a sale to the Mac when compared to our systems. If you can't get Apple to help you out, I can send one of the systems we have for you to test. Let me know. **Lately, I have noted that Apple Macbook Pro's bulge at their right front corners - the pan extends outward a full 1mm around the corner between screw holes. Nasty. *** I would powder such a defective system against the wall in disgust, if ever presented with such poor quality. Can't help it. They have to be perfect. |
