Microsoft Corp.'s chief executive and the top executive involved with its Windows operating system are sticking with a position the company has held since the outset of the four-year antitrust case: They cannot pull the Internet Explorer Web browser out of Windows. Nine states suing Microsoft for antitrust violations want to force the company to offer a version of Windows without the browser and other added features. That would allow computer makers to install competitors' products, if they chose, without taking on the added cost of supporting both products. Currently, Microsoft's ubiquitous Windows has a leg up on competitors vying for the hearts of consumers and software designers. | ||

Well at one time MS tried to buy Intuit, and they both wanted the deal but it was shot down. It is debatable if Intuit or MS has a better product in that enviroment, Since 2001 I believe the intuit product has gone down hill a bit. and I agree, EVERY ISP is a better set up than AOL, just try to figure out what people see in AOL. MSN is just as bad IMO. All I personally need is a pipeline to the internet. let me deciede what tools I need to get there. And this is from one of the Original AOL beta testers when it started up. Now it is debatable if MS has a Better Product, they were in the right position at the right time. When the Consumer PC came into being. Most Office PC's were IBM based and those that wanted a home PC went with what they knew in the office. But no company has made a concerted effort to try to unseat MS in that arena. (well a couple of DOS vendors did in the early days and even had better dos than MS versions) Linux may eventually get there as a desktop level system. but it needs to hide the complexities of the system management. They need to decide on one uniform platform and make a concerted effort to get to that point. And they need to maintain that consistancy when they do decide. el |
