Yahoo unveils test toolbar for Firefox | |

Yahoo said late Wednesday that it has released a test version of its toolbar for the Mozilla Firefox Web browser. Toolbars from companies such as Yahoo enable users to go directly to particular services, such as e-mail or Web search, by simply clicking on an icon. Yahoo says on its download page that people can customize and access the toolbar from any PC. Amazon.com's A9.com search unit also offers a toolbar for Firefox, an open-source browser that is gaining in popularity as an alternative to Microsoft's dominant Internet Explorer. | ||

| #74: Amen to that. The MS apologist fan club here would have everyone thinking that only Windows XP SP2 is in use around the world. I have 4 computers and only one is running Windows XP SP2... (probably because I only use licensed software and refuse to pay for unnecessary OS upgrades every few years). |

The exploit has been fixed and there is a patch as well as several workarounds. Its just not yet released officially for Firefox 1.0. Yes the "normal" users of Firefox are not protected currently againstt this flaw. Secunia rates none of the flaws in Firefox extremely or even highly critical. I'm sure before long the Mozilla Organization will release the official update or patch to users of Firefox 1.0. Most likely the Mozilla Organization will release this prior to Microsoft fixing its 8 outstanding unfixed highly critical flaws in IE. |

You miss my point entirely. The point is about a comparison, based upon a choice - the newest -v the newest of each. IE in XP SP2, is quite impressive and very far more secure - period. Neither FF, or the environment we now face [far more dangerous] existed when W2K shipped - no more than either did when IE 6.x first came out. Choice - in 1999 I drove a custom Tahoe - black, fast and new. I gave it to one of my kids and bought a new 4x4 Hemi - 6 years hence. I find it no more appropriate to run a 6 year old OS than I find it desirable to drive a 6 year old ride - a choice. It is not appropriate to compare the two from many perspectives - different technology and a different time. Finally, more than 90% of all people coming to the many thousands of applications and sites we have built and host, run XP SP2. This data is reflected in our logs and while it could be unique to ourselves, I doubt it is too far off the mark. Those still running older OS variants are all upgrading to XP SP2 for a lot of reasons - all being based in the experience delivered - one they have at least seen, or heard of, if not directly witnessed. |

| People who think its inappropriate for anyone to still run Windows 2000 need to check their priorities. Not everyone can afford the latest and greatest computer with the latest and greatest OS. |
