CDRLabs.com has posted a great review of Memorex's latest DVD writer, the True 8x DVD±RW drive. An OEM version of Pioneer's DVR-107 drive, the Memorex drive supports writing of -R and +R media at 8x, and -RW and +RW media at 4x. So what did CDRLabs think of the drive? Here's a snippet:
While the True 8x has a few rough spots, it performed pretty well overall. Thanks to its 8x writing speeds, it turned in some very good times with both DVD-R and DVD+R media. The True 8x's 4x DVD-RW writing speeds also gave it the advantage in our tests. Memorex's new drive was also pretty quick when reading DVD's. It had no problems reading single layer data DVD's at 12x and read most recordable media at 8x.
Memorex's new DVD writer also did pretty well in our CD read tests. While its seek times were a little high, the True 8x had no problems reading pressed and CD-R media at 40x. The drive also ripped audio CD's at an impressive 41x. When writing CD's, the True 8x performed reasonably well. It wasn't as fast as some of the other drives we've tested, but its writing quality was very good.
