Microsoft had some high points in 2002 - its earnings were far and above what were expected and that too in a year when tech companies were doing it really hard. The world's biggest software company also saw the long-pending anti-trust suit resolved in its favour. The earnings part would have been particularly gratifying in a year when the company introduced new licensing terms (which were withdrawn for some products later on) in order to ensure a steady stream of revenue year after year
