Microsoft Corp. said on Monday it had hired a new chief salesman for its television division away from Liberate Technologies Inc. as the software giant tries to make inroads into the elusive market for interactive TV. Microsoft, which also develops software for advanced TV services and has invested heavily in the cable TV industry, said it has named John Walthall as director of worldwide sales for the TV division. Walthall was previously vice president for Americas sales at Liberate.
