Apple has released Java 1.4.1 Update 1, a new version of its Java implementation for Mac OS X. The release offers “60 per cent more features” than the previous version, claims Apple. Java 1.4.1 uses the latest certified release of the Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition. The company claims the update adds improved Java applet support for Safari and other Web browsers that support the Java Internet Plug-in, as well as more-accurate drawing and improved performance. Other changes include: support for Java's abstract windowing toolkit (AWT); more security application programming interfaces (APIs); Unicode 3.0 support; improved rendering; support for Oracle11i client applications on Mac OS X; and improved stability, memory usage, and correctness. Apple also says Applets in Safari load faster than previously. The 40MB update requires OS X 10.2.6 or later, is available for download, or via the OS X’s Software Update preference pane. | ||
