  • DOWNLOAD: CalShare: - Share the entire calendar and/or contacts or just the ones falling in a specific category. For instance, I put all family-related events in the "Family" category. Paul is included in the list of contacts to receive calendar updates in the family category. I had to enter him multiple times to represent different categories for calendar and then another set for contacts. To share your Outlook contacts and appointments, your friends and colleagues will also have to register and download CalShare. Not perfect, but then again many of us are using Instant Messenger to communicate with others who have to download the software, too. If you're concerned about the company sharing your contact list, the site has a clear statement regarding privacy and security. Furthermore, the CalShare repository is encrypted and resides on a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Web server. The program works for Outlook 2002, but not sure about 2003.
  • DOWNLOAD: LS - File List Generator v1.53: A great little utility that collects information about files and sub-folders for a selected directory or drive and generates a log. Plenty of options for customizing the results such as path, file name, folder name, extensions, file size, and save date. On top of that, the results can be sorted or not, determine the units to use for file size (none, bytes, kb, mb, gb), and specify a delimiter which comes in handy if you want to import the results into a spreadsheet. At the end of the file, it lists the number of files, folders, and the sum of the file sizes. Whew, that backup folder is a big'un!
  • GNEWBIE GNOOK: Conserving Precious Resources-Q: I have a slower computer, and need to conserve resources for different things, as some things slow down when I try to do them at the same time. What I would like to do is have different boot-up profiles for the things I do, like one for Internet stuff, which would turn on networking and the firewall, and another for working with graphics, which would turn off everything except the stuff needed to make graphics work, and a third for running a defragger (and doesn't work in safe mode). Any ideas on how to set this stuff up in XP Pro?
