Hewlett-Packard this week rolled out new AlphaServers, the flagship server product line it brought on board as part of the Compaq (news - web sites) acquisition closed earlier this month. HP detailed two new servers. The AlphaServer DS20L comes with two 64-bit Alpha processors and up to 2 Gbits of memory. Up to 40 DS20L can be combined in a single 6.5-foot-high rack-mount, HP said. A second supercomputer system, the AlphaServer SC20, can combine up to 128 DS20L units via a high-speed interconnect and deliver up to 426 gigaflops of performance. According to IDC, HP and Compaq hold a combined 41.5 percent of the $5.06 billion high-performance computing market. Though HP is just announcing the new systems, it said it has already sold more than 1,000 of the HP AlphaServer DS20L servers to customers requiring high-end computing platforms. | ||
