The Microsoft Developer Tools Roadmap, was created to help development organizations more effectively plan their future investments in Microsoft technologies and tools. In addition to the development tools roadmap, this document was created to focus specifically on version control technology and on the upcoming directions of Visual SourceSafe®. For development organizations whose needs go beyond version control, or for larger teams who require a more robust source-code control system based on SQL Server 2005 in the backend, Microsoft has recently announced Visual Studio Team Foundation, which addresses the broader software configuration management (SCM) needs of development organizations seeking a complete suite of enterprise software development life-cycle tools.
