Microsoft Corp.'s Paul Gross, head of the world's largest software maker's struggling wireless group, left in July after a falling out with Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer. The CEO's solution: run the unit himself. In November, Ballmer ordered Microsoft's money-losing Internet services group to report to him. Two weeks ago, he eliminated the role of President Rick Belluzzo and assumed direct oversight of all business units. Microsoft, whose stock is down 15 percent in 2002, today missed forecasts for fiscal third-quarter profit. | ||
