Apple announces "Insomnia" student film festival
Time: 03:16 EST/08:16 GMT | News Source: Ars Technica | Posted By: Jonathan Tigner

The Insomnia Film Festival, put on by Apple, will be launched November 10th and it will not be your typical film festival. Apple is challenging student filmmakers to make a short film from start to finish in just twenty-four hours (if Jack Bauer can save the world in that amount of time, making a short film shouldn't be a problem). The film must meet a specific criteria that will not be released until 5 PM EST on November 10th and all submissions will have to be submitted in just twenty-four hours on November 11th.

Apple has dealt us the tagline "Turn 24 hours of insanity into 15 minutes of fame." The contest will first be judged by the general public online and then the top 25 entries will be given to a panel of five expert judges who will determine an overall winner. In all, the best film, as voted by the general public (man gets hit in the groin with football) and best film as voted by the judges will win a prize package including 80GB iPod videos, Final Cut Studio (Final Cut Pro 5, Motion 2, Soundtrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro 4, and Compressor), and Shake.
