  Batman swings home to DVD

Warner Bros has announced Batman: The Animated Series - Volume 1 for release on July 6th. This 4 disc set will contain 28 episodes (roughly half) from the first season of the series, as well as some exciting bonus material:

  • Commentary on select episodes
  • The Dark Knight's First Night - featurette
  • Batman: The Legacy Continues - featurette
  • Tour of the Batcave
  • Trailers - Challenge of the Superfriends, Justice League: Star Crossed, Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman
There's no information yet about whether the episodes will be on the DVD in airdate order or in production order. Each order has advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, if you use airdate order, the 2nd episode produced - "Christmas with the Joker" (a fan favorite) - won't show up on this release, and will have to wait for the next volume. On the other hand, if you use production order, the 2-part episode "Two-Face" gets six different episodes inserted between each part of the story!

Suggested retail price is $44.98 US and $58.90 CAN. The set will be full frame (1.33:1) and contain English, Spanish and French stereo tracks and matching subtitles. The first run of this DVD set will also include MovieCash on the package, good for up to $12 off the purchase of a ticket to see Halle Berry as Catwoman in theatres this summer.
