For most users there are only two parts to the internet: email and the web. The other services available are far less known having been more or less swamped by the busy exchange of email messages and handsome browsers. But the internet was originally intended to be a tool for academia (and the US military) and still carries the legacy of its origins. An evolution of bulletin boards, Usenet is one such legacy. It is a nearly defunct system that briefly enjoyed CB-radio-like popularity in New Zealand from the 1980s through to the coming of the internet. | ||
