  Gigabit Ethernet: Need-To-Know, Part 1

A LAN based on 10/100 Ethernet is more than adequate to handle most small networkers' needs. But what about the future, and all those multiple streams of video that you're supposed to want flying around your home? Will good ol' 10/100 Ethernet handle that?

In this first installment of our Gigabit Ethernet NTK, we'll look at what gigabit Ethernet is and how to determine whether you need it. We'll also look at what you need to do to get your LAN "gigabit-ready," and we'll provide a brief survey of equipment suitable for small networking needs.
