A Microsoft executive recently testified that the company plans to charge rivals a fee to view the underlying code of its Windows operating system under an antitrust settlement that will be debated in court today, say people familiar with the matter. The disclosure, which came in a deposition, is mandated to ensure rival programs work with Windows, which runs 92% of personal computers. Officials of nine states that did not join the pact and want tougher sanctions say Microsoft should not be permitted to profit from provisions aimed at punishing it and promoting competition. | ||
