Microsoft preps midlife kickers for Windows XP | |

Microsoft Corp. will release as many as six new products late this year as a suite of midlife kickers for its core WindowsXP operating system. The products represent the company's dual goals of improving the traditional PC and inventing new devices for Windows software beyond it. In the fourth quarter, the Redmond giant will roll out an upgrade of XP focused on greater security, 64-bit versions of its desktop and server operating system and improved versions of its Windows Media Player and Media Center PC software. It will also release software for the Portable Media Center, a new type of Windows handheld device that stores and plays video, music and pictures. | ||
