In a bid to gain a toehold in the desktop PC market, Linux vendor Lindows has released a new version of its operating system. The company claims Lindows 3.0 is a low-cost, easy-to-use OS that is compatible with Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows file formats. Version 3.0 is also the first Lindows OS to be available as a stand-alone product. Prior to the new release, consumers could only purchase Lindows bundled on PCs. "Until now, the value of Linux has been unavailable to 99 percent of the world to experience firsthand," Lindows CEO Michael Robertson said. | ||
