MSN 8 Asks Users to Pay for Some Online Services
Time: 16:00 EST/21:00 GMT | News Source: Gartner | Posted By: Byron Hinson

Microsoft's decision to move MSN to a partial for-pay model reasonably extends the trend in which content and application providers seek financial legitimacy by countering the popular mid-1990s assertion that information ("content" is the more common term in 2002) "wants to be free." The precipitous decline in competition among Internet information and interaction hubs makes the for-pay business model more defensible than ever — the critical issue here.

Can't you cut and paste the code for similar controls (at least, the ones with similar functionality)?

There is a fair amount of cutting and pasting that is possible. There is also a pretty healthy amount of search and replace. Still, though, I have to write a lot of stuff by hand, like matching the fields in a typed dataset with the name of the control. It'd be nice if there were a mechanism that new that Application.Name should be assigned to txtApplicantName.Text, but alas...writing the code for the params for the stored proc calls is also bothersome. Oh well...

If I can find some decent argument, I think I can take blue this week. If daz releases the next beta of the forums, I could definately do it.

Hmm, maybe I should create an ID and fight with myself. Lol! BobJerk? Htims? Or I could do one of my Russian nicknames. Maybe zver and I should fight. Trouble is he and I agree too much, he's just a little more foul mouthed about it than I am.

I'm not at all happy that I just crashed VisualStudio .NET.

#541 By 2459 (24.233.39.98) at 10/15/2002 12:25:20 AM
ouch. Not running the beta Framework or anything are you?

#542 By 2459 (24.233.39.98) at 10/15/2002 12:25:59 AM
Speaking of which, does VS have any recovery features like Office?

#543 By 1845 (12.254.162.111) at 10/15/2002 12:27:32 AM
Nope, I haven't downloaded the 1.1 beta. I'm running 1.0 sp2. I think it just didn't like that I wrote a function with 132 input params. It refuses to give me IntelliSense on it.

Might want to check your memory usage or Harddrive space.

Sodajerk is a bit out of control: "Grow some balls"? lol, not to mention his attempted defense of FSF. Even RANT didn't defend FSF.

And, surprisingly, he has yet to respond to my post. I was expecting a bit of a debate.

it'll be interesting to see how (or if) he responds

FSF really bugs me. I try to read gnu.org every so often to make sure in the past I wasn't dreaming about how horrible it is. I'm shocked anew everytime I return.

#549 By 1845 (12.254.162.111) at 10/15/2002 12:51:18 AM
vs.net has only crashed on me a few times and i'm including all the betas. clearly it doesn't like some things - like methods with a LOT of parameters.
