Google employees are in the tank for Barack Obama. So is Bill Gates. But the Microsoft rank and file prefer Hillary Clinton. Cisco CEO John Chambers backs John McCain, although his employees are supporting Clinton.
In an eWEEK analysis of individual political contributors at the nation's largest technology and telecom firms, tech workers are overwhelmingly betting their presidential dollars on the Democrats.

#25 - thanks for sharing that. You're right on. I have a daughter nearly your age :)
#27, I suspect, but do not know, that some comments were removed by the site owners.
By intent, I do not look at DB contents, or mess with them. I can't well comment here as I do, and as the site's host, violate my own ethics - so my actions are restricted to keeping it all running and as healthy as its aging lines of code will allow.

in the past "deleted posts" werte changed to read somelink like "this post has been removed due to a violation of the ActiveWin Terms Of Use". Having posts deleted without comment (or worse, changed without comment) makes one wonder as to credability.

#29, As I said, I don't know - and I can't speak to credibility, especially since I don't know in what context you are using the word.
I suspect that the site owners removed comments they assessed were not appropriate.
That is their right - as it is for any site owner.

I heard you the first time Llyod. My post #29 was not directed specifically at you. Or was it post #32, guess we'll never know if posts are being deleted...

rxcall - you and i see the same problem.
I again, reiterate that NO ONE is turned away... be they Bill-100kAndAbove, Bill-middleclass, or Bill-poverty. you switched topics on me... to one of what happens to bill-middleclass when he's staring at a huge bill.
hint: he doesn't pay it, and at WORSE he gets his paycheck garnished to the tune of a couple hundred bucks a month. Thats not back breaking, and clearly the loser in this ecosystem are the care providers... that performed the work and used the resources... but aren't being paid in a timely fashion.
you suggest spreading the burden. hmmm, thats tough to swallow as I'd argue the 'spread' is already baked in. If we can oversimply the market to be as I described above (3 eco types of Bill-100kAndAbove, Bill-middleclass, and Bill-poverty) and we are talking about SPREADING the burden... then you really mean making Bill-100kAndAbove pay. Right? Cause we're helping Bill-middleclass... so he can't pay more, by the very definition of this problem. We can't ask bill-poverty to pay more, obviously. So, the poor fool lucky enough to have a good job (more likely, the hubby/wife are both working their asses off) is punished... yet again. So, wife-100kAndAbove might as well just stop working... as the tax increase (paired with childcare that wouldnt be needed if she stayed home with the kids) all but does away with any benefit she gets from working.
So, what a system... encouraging more stay-at-home moms (held captive, more so than by choice). and further destroying everyone's desire to "make it" in America.
No thanks.

This is only true in instances where the income of one spouse (the dad in your example) is disproportionately higher than the income of the other spouse.

Actually, I see nothing wrong with this. I think one of the problems we have in our society is the disconnect between children and their parents. The bonding and learning benefits of infants being nurtured by a parent instead of being dropped off for 10 to 12 hours at a daycare are well understood. As the child grows, the interaction and involvement of the parents plays an even greater role in the child being well-grounded. (I was a latch-key kid, but somehow turned out more-or-less ok--I consider myself lucky.) My wife and I are blessed in that she was able to "retire" when she became pregnant with our first son. She has been a great stay at home mom for both sons and is heavily involved in their school and other activities when I can't alway be. This may sound like the 1950s, but I think it's the best thing to do. It doesn't matter whether the stay at home parent is the mom or dad either.
Regardless of work commitments, you, as a parent must talk to your kids, play games with them, work out with them, check their homework every night, have them play sports, take them to sporting events, and eat dinner with them every night.

Now, as far as the tax burden is concerned: make it a national flat income tax exempting families with incomes under $50,000. You get one break for your primary residence, too. That's it. The rich will never go for this since they lose their shelters. Now, how do you encourage investment in either businesses or real estate? How do you make sure the middle class, making $50,000 to $100,000, aren't paying excessively? Would a national sales tax, exempting food, be the answer? A lot of questions have to be addressed before we can change our current broke system.

ch - "Actually, I see nothing wrong with this." referring to more stay-at-home moms.
You knuckle-dragger you! No, i wont disagree with your points. Kids would be MUCH MUCH MUCH better off if that was still the norm. My point is that she will be staying at home, and not necessarily because she wants to. Where's the 'freedom' in that?
And I dont think I agree that my example is only for lopsided 2-earner homes. If they both make $50k each, my example still holds true. One will be coerced to stop working, so they aren't penalized for making too much money. Thats the most anti-capitalist thought... to PENALIZE for someone WORKING. Working should be rewarded (even the Bible agrees with that).
flat tax is better than the current mish-mash, but only for the reason that its simpler... and all the bazillion accountants will go find more society-helping work. I'd prefer a national sales tax, so that its MY choice whether I save... or I spend (and be taxed). Its my money, after all. And NO exemptions for ANYTHING. Why? Because thats how we got in this mess to begin with. Each and every exemption or caveat to the tax law was well-purposed in the beginning and look at how it all ended up.
Look, here's all that matters... the flat tax, or the sales tax... neither will be put into place. There are simply too many people that are embedded in the current crazy system (accountants are just one example). It will never go away, without anything short of a public revolt (meaning MORE than a simple vote. MUCH MORE).
