Opinion -- Over in the DesktopLinux forums, people have been talking about why -- if Linux is so darned great -- don't people give up Windows and move to it.
The usual suspects show up. There aren't enough applications. The right application isn't available. You still have to use the command line for some things. Some equipment doesn't have drivers.
There's some truth to those, and some nonsense.

#24: "rulings which were overturned, in Microsoft’s case, because they did not apply."
They applied, all right. The problem was an administration change that brought in guys who generally don't like to come down too hard on business, especially a world-leading company like Microsoft. Don't kid yourself; MS was saved by the Republicans and got a slap on the wrist that hasn't altered MS' behaviour one bit.

#26 Nonsense. Microsoft was only convicted because "the actions of the trial judge seriously tainted the proceedings before the District Court and called into question the integrity of the judicial process." (Court of Appeals).
Latch may prefer biased judges making rulings. The Court of Appeal did not.

"You still have to use the command line for some things." I dont have too, i find it easier and faster.
I could go download and compile and then install deamon tools from source (if its available...) but i dont because the same functionality is offered with the "mount" shell command. And y'know how long it takes me to get to the shell? one right click then one left one. The only thing i cant use a gui for is nothing. There's even a program called kyum to manage repositories and junk.
Dude, im only 15. I can figure it out, i think the rest of the world can too.
#5 >> try right clicking and selecting the program you want to open the file with. then click the "remember accosiation" checkbox. not that hard to figure out. And uhh, linux doesn't need file types, they are only flags for the user, so the user knows what program to open it with.
#25 >> Trade in the ati card to someone for an equivilent nvida one.
The only cost for linux is spending some time (lol, time is money...) deprogramming yourself from the windows way of using your comp and relearning to do it your way. (i got to that point about mid april, with my first install of linux in febuary.)
